Amy Broadhurst rejoins the GB Boxing squad and sets her sights on qualifying for la28 olympic games

Former World, European and Commonwealth Champion Amy Broadhurst has re-joined Great Britain’s World Class Programme (WCP) for boxing.

The 28-year-old, who previously competed for Ireland but holds a British passport which means she is eligible to represent England and Team GB, initially joined the GB Boxing squad in April 2024 when she narrowly missed-out on qualification for the Paris Olympics, after losing in the quarter-final to Yeonji Oh of South Korea at the 2nd Olympic qualifier in Thailand in May 2024.

Following the Olympic Games in Paris, Amy took an 18-month break from competitive boxing when she gave birth to her first child.

Amy rejoined GB Boxing in January 2026 and will train four days per week at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, following an assessment with boxers and coaches from the Podium squad in December 2025. She will compete in her favoured lightweight category (W60kg).

GB Boxing Performance Director Rob McCracken said: “Having worked with Amy previously we know first-hand the level of quality and commitment she brings. When you combine that with her proven track record at international level, it’s clear she has the ability to compete with the very best and has real Olympic potential.

“Amy will increase the strength in depth we have in the squad and we look forward to supporting her for the rest of this LA28 cycle alongside the rest of the boxers.”

Amy Broadhurst said: “While the initial decision to switch to Great Britain in 2024 was a bit of a whirlwind experience, I was warmly welcomed by GB Boxing and treated really well, so it is great to come back into the squad.

“There are a lot of new faces and a whole new energy here, but everyone has been so welcoming. It feels like a fresh start, and I am really enjoying working alongside such a talented group of boxers and with top-class coaches that I have already established good working relationships with from my previous time with squad.

“Balancing boxing and being a mum definitely is challenging, but my little boy is my biggest motivation. I’ll be flying from Ireland to GB every week but having him with me every second week will make all the difference and keep me grounded and remind me why I am doing this.

“When I missed out on qualification last time, I was devastated, but now I see it differently. Everything happens for a reason.

“I feel strong and comfortable competing at 60kg. In the past, I was up and down with weight but this time I am focused on staying consistent. I am fully committed to the next two and half years now and my goal is simple. Train hard, keep improving, and do everything I can to make it to the 2028 Olympics.”

Born in Ireland, Broadhurst holds a British passport through her father and has strong links to UK having lived in London when she represented Islington ABC for six years at domestic competitions.

Amy will train four days per week (Mon-Thurs) at the GB Boxing gym in Sheffield as part of the Podium squad and attend international training camps and competitions.
