COMPETITIONS

During each Olympic cycle the men and women in the GB Boxing squad take part in a range of international competitions against boxers from around the world.

These competitions include global and continental championships, such as the World Boxing Championships and the European Boxing Championships; multi-sport competitions, such as the Commonwealth Games or the European Games; the World Boxing Cup series which is made-up of three or four stages and takes place annually; and smaller invitational events hosted by individual national federations, which includes well-established annual competitions such as The Strandja Cup in Bulgaria or the Bocskai Memorial Tournament in Hungary, to name just two.

These competitions enable GB Boxing’s men and women to test their skills against the best boxers in the world and are a crucial part of the boxers’ development as it builds their experience and gives them exposure to a wide range of different styles from across the globe.

Each competition is a building block towards the next Olympic Games and an opportunity for the men and women in the GB Boxing to learn and develop in a highly competitive, pressurised environment

The boxers are supported by coaches and staff from GB Boxing at all of these competitions, however the men and women compete in their home nation vest and represent England, Scotland, or Wales. The only time the boxers represent Great Britain is at the Olympic Games and the European Games when they compete for Team GB.

All competitions are held under the rules of World Boxing (HERE), which is the International Federation for boxing recognised by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at global level.
