Former World and European Champion Amy Broadhurst returns to competitive action after two-year break and first child

Former World, European and Commonwealth Champion, Amy Broadhurst, will make her return to competitive action at the up-and-coming Eindhoven Box Cup in the Netherlands, 21 – 26 May 2026.

It will be the first time she has boxed in an official international competition since May 2024 and follows a two-year break in which she gave birth to her son.

The 28-year-old previously competed for Ireland but holds a British passport and is eligible to represent England and Team GB and has been training with Great Britain’s Olympic boxing programme since she returned to the sport in January 2026.

She had a recent tune-up at a training camp and round robin in Poland but the event in Eindhoven will be her first official international competition for more than two years.

Broadhurst said: “I am really looking forward to it. I had a couple of bouts recently at a round robin but it will be very different to be back in the actual competition environment, where there are lots of other teams and things like an official weigh-in and a draw.

“Obviously there will be a few nerves but I have put the work in over the last five months and am excited to get back. The coaches, particularly my lead coach Gary Hale, is very happy with my progress and I got a lot of positive feedback on my performance at the recent camp in Poland.

“I was out for a long time and getting back into it has been difficult at times, with having to lose the baby weight after childbirth, but I am very lucky to be working with a very supportive and professional team at GB Boxing and have enjoyed the experience of getting back in shape. Now I am looking forward to competing again.”

Broadhurst’s return to boxing means she trains from Monday to Thursday each week at GB Boxing’s gym in Sheffield and then returns to Ireland at weekends. Her mum and baby son join her in Sheffield every other week, however she admits the time away from her son is tough.

“The hardest part has been saying goodbye to my son every other week, even though it is only for a few days, but I am lucky to have a very supportive family,” she explained.

“My mum comes over with him to Sheffield every other week and we all stay together. My mum and dad are also bringing him to Eindhoven so it will be great to have them all around and to be able to spend time with my son, even when I am in competition.”

The Eindhoven Cup, where she will box in the welterweight division (W65kg) will mark the start of a busy competitive period for Amy and will be followed by a trip to China in June for the ‘World Boxing Cup – China 2026’ in Guiyang City, when she expects to box at her long-term target weight of lightweight (W60kg).

Amy added: “I think I am at about 70% of my best right now so there is still some way to go. Hopefully I can perform well in Eindhoven and then it will be a step-up again in China which will be a big competition with about 50 nations, including some of the best in the world so that will be a good test.

“It will be a challenge but I am looking forward to it, and it will all be good experience on the road to the next Olympics in LA, which is the long-term goal.”
