GB Boxing to compete in Grand Prix – World Boxing Challenge in Czech Republic

GB Boxing have sent a team of nine boxers to compete in this year’s Grand Prix tournament in Usti nad Labem, Czech Republic, which for the second-year running is being ran in co-operation with World Boxing as a World Boxing Challenge event.

The team selected will be made up five women and four men and includes significant returns to action for Charley Davison (54kg), Lucy Kings-Wheatley (60kg) and Kerry Davis (75kg).

For Davison, it marks her return to competition for the first time since competing in her second Olympic Games at Paris 2024.

The two-time Olympian has committed to the World Class Programme (WCP) for a third cycle with the hopes of reaching her third Games at LA28 – with boxing now officially confirmed to be back on the programme following the IOC’s decision earlier this year.

As for Kings-Wheatley and Davis, both women will be stepping through the ropes for the first time in over a year following lengthy injury lay-offs.

Kings-Wheatley last competed at the Gee Bee in April of last year where she picked up a bronze medal whilst for Davis, her last outing came at the World Boxing Cup event held in Sheffield back in January of 2024 where she too earned bronze.

The trio of returning boxers will be joined by both Alice Pumphrey (51kg) and Ella Thompstone (65kg) who come into the tournament of the back of being crowned champions at this year’s National Amateur Championships held in April.

There is also a GB Boxing debut for Leo Wood (60kg), who joined the squad at the start of the year following his success in reaching the semi-final stages of the European U23 Championship in October of last year.

Completing the squad is Scottish duo Aaron Cullen (55kg) and Isa Akram (60kg) as well as England’s Callum Makin (70kg). Cullen most recently competed at the Feliks Stamm for GB Boxing whilst Akram and Makin’s last outing came at the Gee Bee.

The nine boxers will represent England and Scotland at the Grand Prix.  The full team is:
