GB Boxing to send boxers to Finland for World Boxing challenge event

GB Boxing has named 14 boxers to compete in the upcoming Tammer tournament in Finland from Friday 24th- 26th November 2023.

Newly formed international federation World Boxing have selected the well-established tournament to be the host of the very first World Boxing challenge event.

The challenge event is designed to provide a structure to the existing calendar of smaller competitions delivered by National Federations.

Ranking points will be awarded to boxers based on their performances at these events which will count towards their eligibility to compete in the World Boxing Cup and other major tournaments including Continental and World Championships.

Seven men and seven women will make up the GB squad travelling Tampere as well as middleweight Cindy Ngamba, who will be representing the refugee team, as she did at the European Games in June.

Six medallists from the recent Cologne World Boxing Cup will be back in action.

That includes future Paris 2024 Olympians Charley Davison and Rosie Eccles who took gold and silver respectively.

Demie-Jade Resztan and Patrick Brown joined Eccles in taking home silver from Germany whilst Joe Tyers and Harris Akbar earned bronze.

Kiaran MacDonald and Ramtin Musah are the other members of the Tammer travelling squad who boxed in Cologne, with both missing out on the medal stages on that occasion.

Featherweight Sameenah Toussaint and light-middleweight Ioan Croft both come into this tournament off the back of silver medal performances at the Silesian and Leszek respectively.

Cameron McKay and Chantelle Reid will both make their debuts as GB Boxers having joined the programme earlier this year.

Completing the line-up of boxers is female duo, Kelsey Oakley, and Olivia Holmes.

The 14 boxers will represent England, Wales, and the ROC at the Tammer.  The full team is:
