Glynn and Richardson crowned champions at Turkey’s Cesme tournament
ENGLAND’S Elise Glynn and Gemma Richardson both sealed victories in their respective final to secure gold medals at the Cesme tournament in Turkey.
The pair were the only two members of the GB Boxing squad to enter the tournament in Izmir and were both competing for the first time this year.
First to be crowned champion in yesterday’s action was featherweight Glynn who faced the host nation’s Aysen Taskin, and the 21-year-old made no mistake on her way to a unanimous points victory.
It was the second time in as many bouts that the Solihull boxer had got the better of her opponent unanimously, having also beaten Tunisia’s Eya Chihaoui in her semi-final clash.
For Richardson, her 4:1 split victory in her lightweight final against Turkey’s Gizem Ozer was her third bout in just under a week.
Boxing for the first time since winning silver at the 2022 Commonwealth Games, Richardson secured two unanimous victories on top of her final win, firstly beating Tunisia’s Islem Ferclichi in the preliminary stage before following it up against Evin Erginoguz of Turkey in the semi-final.
