Glynn and Richardson set to compete in Cesme tournament this week

GB Boxing will send two women to compete in this week’s Cesme tournament in Izmir, Tukey from 24th-30th April 2023.

It will be the third competition in a month as the preparations ramp up ahead of the first Olympic qualifier which will take place in Krakow, Poland in June.

Elise Glynn and Gemma Richardson will be the two women competing in Turkey and for both it will be their first time stepping through the ropes this year.

For Richardson, it will be the first-time she’s boxed since earning a silver medal at last year’s Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The 21-year old won bouts against boxers from Scotland, Isle of Man and India on the way to her lightweight final with Ireland’s reigning World and European champion, Amy Broadhurst.

Whilst for Glynn, she will be looking to continue the progress she made in 2022 which saw her compete at both the Bocskai and the European Championships just months after joining the World Class Performance Programme (WCPP) full time.

On both occasions, the Solihull boxer went to toe-to-toe with Italy’s Irma Testa who like Broadhurst, is the current World and European champion in the featherweight division.

The two boxers will represent England at the Cesme Tournament.  The full team is:

The results of all the bouts involving boxers from Great Britain will be posted on GB Boxing’s social media channels and at https://gbboxing.org.uk/.
