Harris-Allan into next round following victory on mixed day two at Boxing Road to Paris Olympic qualifying event
OWAIN Harris Allan earned an impressive victory on a day two of mixed fortunes at the Boxing Road to Paris Olympic qualifying event in Busto Arsizio, Italy, as teammate, Taylor Bevan, suffered defeat.
Harris-Allan was the first of the two to compete on the day and he continued his fine form in 2024, which has seen him win two golds from as many tournaments (World Boxing Cup and Boxam), to beat Jose De Los Santos Feliz.
The Welshman sealed a 4:1 split victory after responding well in rounds two and three and earn a comeback victory, having been down on all five cards to the Dominican after the opening three minutes.
He will now box again on Friday against New Zealand’s Alex Mukuka at 21:30pm.
Harris-Allan said: “I feel amazing. The first one of the tournament is always tricky. It’s new surroundings, new environments, a new intensity, and you have to adjust but I felt I boxed well.
“He’s a strong boy with a Pan-American bronze medal, meaning he just missed out on Olympic qualification but for its onto the next one now, I can’t wait.
“Every fight I go into I feel confident but with each win it keeps building and I’m just excited to get in there again!”
Fellow countryman Taylor Bevan was also in action on day two. However, the light-heavyweight suffered defeat in his opening bout as he was beatenby Hungary’s Pylyp Akilov.
Three boxers from Great Britain are in action on day three in Busto Arsizio.
Up first and competing in the lightweight contest is Shona Whitwell who will take on Kosovo’s Donjeta Sadiku at 11:30am UK time.
Then, in the day’s evening session, Patris Mughalzai at 63.5kg will go up against El Salvador’s Samuel Contreras at 19:00pm.
Concluding day three is light-middleweight Lewis Richardson who faces India’s world bronze medallist, Nishant Dev at 21:15pm.
