Statement from GB Boxing following the decision by the IOC’s Executive Board to recommend to IOC Session to withdraw recognition of IBA

“The IOC’s decision to withdraw recognition of IBA (subject to the decision of the IOC Session on 22 June 23) is a hugely significant moment for boxing and an opportunity for the sport to put itself on a new path that will preserve boxing’s ongoing place on the Olympic programme.

“The new international federation, World Boxing, has been set-up to achieve this and is committed to working constructively and collaboratively with the IOC and all other stakeholders to ensure boxing remains part of the Olympic Games.

“The challenge now is for all National Federations to do what is best for their boxers and the sport of boxing and get behind World Boxing and its efforts keep boxing at the heart of the Olympic Movement.”
