Full squad of GB boxers return from Gee Bee with medals

The GB Boxing squad of five which travelled to Finland for this year’s Gee Bee will all return home with medals, which includes 3 gold medals after light-flyweight Kelsey Oakley, flyweight Scott Richards and light-welterweight Cameron McKay were all crowned champion.

There was also a gold for newly qualified Paris 2024 Olympian Cindy Ngamba, who was representing the refugee team and trains and works closely within the GB Boxing setup.

The final two medals were secured by Wales’ Rosie Eccles who was boxing for the first time since the European Games last summer where she too qualified for Paris 2024, as well as lightweight, Lucy Kings-Wheatley.

On the final day of action, light-flyweight Kelsey Oakley got the day off to a flying start as he defeated the host nation’s Laura Myllykoski unanimously in what was her second bout of the week, having also beating fellow Finish boxer Pihla Kavio-Oja via a 3:2 split at the semi-final stage.

Cameron McKay then followed in his teammates footsteps by also securing gold as was on the right end of a 4:1 split against Denmark’s Abdallah Abou Arab.

The light-welterweight’s other victory this week Taiwan’s Lai Chu-En, again via split decision, this time being 3:2.

Scott Richards and Cindy Ngamba sealed their gold medals on the penultimate day of action in Helsinki as they respectively beat the refugee team’s Omid Ahmadisafa the refugee team unanimously and Czech Republic’s Monika Lungerova via RSC in what was their only bout of the competition.
