GB Boxers set to compete in this week’s Boxam competition in Spain
13 members of the GB Boxing squad will this week compete in Spain’s annual Boxam tournament held in La Nucia from 30thJanuary – 3rd February 2024.
The team is made up of members of both the podium and academy squads and includes three boxers who competed at the recent World Boxing Cup: GB Open in Sheffield.
Those are Dione Burman who will be straight back in action after winning welterweight gold, whilst lightweight Lucy Kings-Wheatley, who took silver in Sheffield, will be hoping to replicate her performance at last year’s Boxam where she was crowned champion.
Completing the trio is Delicious Orie. The Paris 2024 bound super-heavyweight is eager to be back in the ring having appeared for the first time since earning his Olympic qualification status at the English Institute of Sport last week but suffered defeat in his opening bout at the hands of Germany’s talented Nelvie Tiafack.
2022 European championship gold and bronze medallists Harris Akbar and Lewis Williams will also box in La Nucia this week alongside Conner Tudsbury who is making his return from a lengthy injury.
Kelsey Oakley, Ellis Trowbridge, Sacha Hickey and Amber Moss-Birch will be returning to their second consecutive Boxam.
Last time out, Hickey and Moss-Birch won gold whilst Trowbridge and Oakley had to settle for silver and bronze respectively.
Completing the 13 strong squad is bantamweight Aaron Cullen, who will be making his GB Boxing debut, as well as light-welterweight Cameron McKay and cruiserweight Isaac Okoh.
Also joining them are fellow squad members Scott Richards and Owain Harris Allan, both who competed at the recent World Boxing Cup in Sheffield, who will travel and compete with the Welsh boxing team.
The thirteen boxers travelling with GB Boxing will represent England and Scotland at the Boxam. The full team is:
