GB Boxing selects 11 boxers to compete at World Boxing Cup in China
GB Boxing has selected 11 boxers to compete at the forthcoming World Boxing Cup – China 2026 in Guiyang City, 15-21 June 2026
More than 350 men and women from 45 countries will take part in the tournament which is the second World Boxing Cup of the year.
It will provide an opportunity for the boxers to secure World Boxing ranking points and secure more competitive experience ahead of a busy second half of the year that includes both the Commonwealth Games and European Championships.
The team travelling to China features five women and six men and includes several boxers in good form.
At bantamweight (W54kg) Lauren Mackie heads into the event after securing a bronze medal at the most recent World Boxing Cup in Brazil and a silver medal at The Strandja in February.
She said: “Winning bronze at the last World Boxing Cup has given me a lot of confidence and shown that I’m moving in the right direction. The standard at these events is incredibly high, so to come away with a medal was a big positive, but I feel like there’s still more to come from me. China is another great opportunity to test myself against some of the best boxers in the world, build on that performance and keep improving.
“With the Commonwealth Games and European Championships coming up later this year, every bout is important and I’m focused on carrying my form into this competition and putting myself in the strongest possible position for the challenges ahead.”
The men’s selection includes Isaac Okoh at heavyweight (M90kg), who arrives in China on the back of an impressive run that has seen him win gold medals at three of his last four tournaments, including victory at the World Boxing Cup Finals at the end of last year. He also recorded the first stoppage win of his international career at the Eindhoven Box Cup earlier this month.
Okoh said: “I’ve had a really positive run of results over the last few months and that’s given me a lot of confidence heading into China. Winning gold at the World Boxing Cup Finals last year and then following that up with more strong performances, including the Eindhoven Box Cup last month, has shown the progress I’m making in all areas of my boxing. Every tournament is an opportunity to keep improving, but when you’re consistently competing for medals, it also builds belief in what you can achieve.”
“The World Boxing Cup is another chance to test myself against top international opposition and continue building momentum. I’m going to China with the aim of boxing to the best of my ability, challenging for another gold medal and putting down a marker ahead of a big period for both me and team.”
The selection also includes Sacha Hickey (W65kg) who won a bronze medal at the last World Boxing Cup in Brazil, and Amy Broadhurst (W60kg) and Matt Williams (M90+kg) who both joined teammate Okoh in winning gold at the Eindhoven Box Cup. For Broadhurst, it was the first time she had competed since 2024 following a two-year break in which she gave birth to her son Luca.
Completing the team is Paris 2024 Olympian, Chantelle Reid (W70kg), who took a bronze medal at the World Boxing Championships last year, twin brothers Will Hewitt (M60kg) and Paddy Hewitt (M70kg), and Ellis Trowbridge (M55kg), Patris Mughalzai (M65kg) and Dimeji Shittu (M80kg).
