GB Boxing to bring competitive action in 2021 to a close with tournaments in Serbia and Spain next week

NINE members of GB Boxing will compete at tournaments in Serbia and Spain next week in the final competitive action of the calendar year.

Six boxers (five men and one woman) will travel to Loznica, Serbia to take part in the Golden Gloves tournament while three women will compete at the Tenerife Island event.

The trip to Serbia will be a return journey for five of the men who competed in the 2021 AIBA World Championships in Belgrade just over a month ago.

The team includes heavyweight Lewis Williams, who reached the quarter-finals in Belgrade and Super-heavyweight Delicious Orie who made the last 16, in what was the pair’s first appearance at a major international tournament.

They will be joined by flyweight Kiaran MacDonald, light-middleweight, Harris Akbar, and middleweight, Lewis Richardson.  Lightweight, Shona Whitwell, will be GB Boxing’s sole female competitor at the tournament.

Another lightweight, Gemma Richardson, will make her return to action at the tournament in Tenerife, where she will box for the first time since being crowned EUBC U22 European champion in June of this year.

She will be joined in the Canary Islands by flyweights, Tori-Ellis Willets and Helen Jones.  Willets will be looking to build on her recent success at the Balkan tournament in October where she won silver, while Jones will be making her first competitive appearance since joining the GB Boxing squad earlier this year.

All six boxers will represent England at the Golden Glove in Serbia.  The full team is:
