Wales’ Owain Harris-Allan will compete at second Olympic boxing qualifier in Italy after Jack Dryden withdraws with injury
Owain Harris-Allan from Wales has been added to the GB Boxing team that will compete at the forthcoming Olympic qualifying event in, Busto Arsizio (near Milan), in Italy, 3-11 March 2023, after, Jack Dryden, who was originally selected, was forced to withdraw with a hand injury.
Harris-Allan will box at featherweight (57kg) and is one of 10 boxers from the GB Boxing squad that will have the chance to secure a place at Paris 2024 if they meet the qualification standard at the tournament in Italy.
He is in good form having won gold medals in his two most recent international tournaments, the World Boxing Cup: GB Open in Sheffield and the Boxam in La Nucia, Spain.
Three members of the GB Boxing squad, Charley Davison (Featherweight, 57kg), Rosie Eccles (welterweight, 66kg) and Delicious Orie (super-heavyweight, 92kg+) have already secured a place at Paris 2024 by virtue of their performances at the first qualifying event, last summer’s European Games in Poland.
The tournament in Italy will be overseen by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and is officially known as the ‘1st World Qualification Tournament’.
