Resztan and Eccles move to within one win of securing European medals following victories in Montenegro

VICTORIES for England’s Demie-Jade Resztan and Wales’ Rosie Eccles on day four of action at the 2022 EUBC Womens European Championships mean they are now one win away from guaranteeing at least bronze medal in Budva, Montenegro.

The pair will now join fellow teammate Shona Whitwell in the quarter-final stages following her last 16 win on Saturday (15thOctober).

There was some disappointment on the day however as light-flyweight Savannah Stubley and welterweight Hannah Robinson bowed out of the competition.

First up was Demie-Jade Resztan who was competing for the first time since taking silver at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year.

She took on Azerbaijan’s Gunel Rahimova in the minimumweight contest and demonstrated her experience throughout as she confidently eased to a unanimous victory.

Resztan will now face Turkey’s Ayse Cagirir in the quarter-final for a chance to secure a medal in Budva.

Up next and again back in action fresh from winning a Commonwealth Games medal was Wales’ Rosie Eccles.

After winning gold in Birmingham, the welterweight picked up where he left off and wasted no time in securing her place in the quarterfinals.

She will now go up against Aneta Rygielska of Poland in Wednesday’s quarter-final.

Hannah Robinson was one of two other boxers in action this afternoon.

Competing in her first major competition, the welterweight was beaten by Rygielska of Polan, teammate Rosie Eccles’ quarter-final opponent, via unanimous points decision.

The final boxer to compete on day four was Savannah Stubley. In a very, close matchup with Caitlin Fryers of Ireland, Stubley narrowly missed out on a place in the quarter-finals following a 3:2 split defeat.
