Seven women selected for upcoming Silesian tournament in Poland
GB Boxing will send seven women to this year’s Silesian tournament in Gliwice, Poland from 5th-9th September 2023.
The all women competition, which is running for the 18th time, will see boxers compete at junior, youth, and elite level.
Six of the seven GB Boxers will take part in the elite portion of the competition with 2022 Youth World light-heavyweight champion Amber Moss-Birch participating at youth level.
Light-flyweight Kelsey Oakley is the only member of the podium squad set to attend the competition, the 20-year-old’s last outing came at the Boxam in May, where she claimed bronze.
Academy boxers Lucy Kings-Wheatley and Sacha Hickey were also last in action at the Boxam, with both respectively being crowned champions of the lightweight and light-welterweight divisions.
Sameenah Toussaint will box for the first time since competing at the 2022 Commonwealth Games. The featherweight reached the quarter-final stages where she lost to eventual bronze medallist, Tina Rahimi.
Featherweight Holly Heffron as well as welterweight Dione Burman complete the all-woman squad of boxers heading to Gliwice.
England Boxing will also be sending four boxers to compete at the Silesian tournament. They are Beth Walsh, Ivy-Jane Smith, Chantelle Reid and Ella Thompstone, with the latter competing as a youth boxer.
