World Class Programme Boxing Performance Coach Development Programme 2022-23

Reports to: GB Boxing full time coaches

Duration: 12 month programme

Summary

Boxing is one of the oldest sports in the world and has featured in the Olympic Games since 1904. GB Boxing has a successful record of winning Olympic medals, winning five medals at London 2012 including three golds, three medals at Rio 2016 including one gold, and six medals at Tokyo 2020, including two golds, the best performance by a British team in over 100 years. The objective of GB Boxing is to win medals at the Olympic Games at Paris 2024, LA 2028, and in other major international competitions. To achieve this objective, GB Boxing must build upon recent successes and deliver a World Class Programme (WCP) that identifies the best boxers and supports them in achieving further medal-winning success.

Introduction to Coaching Scholarship

GB Boxing are seeking to offer up to 15 coaching places for 2022-23 to help to identify and support the next generation of coaches with GB Boxing. To be considered for this programme coaches need to be a registered coach with their Home Nation and be an active coach.

The programme will last up to 12 months. During this time coaches will have the opportunity to spend time with GB Boxing full time coaches. Coaches will have the opportunity to complete the GB Boxing’s ‘Coach in High Performance Programme’ which is a pre-requisite of becoming a GB Boxing Performance Coach. Coaches will also have access to attend a monthly online coaching gathering and 1-1 coach support from the GB Boxing Coach Developer.

England Boxing and GB Boxing Partnership

GB Boxing and England Boxing are working in partnership to develop a more aligned and connected coaching pathway therefore this coaching programme will involve coaches to show commitment to actively coach between both programmes. The long-term vision is for England Boxing to be the main nomination pathway for emerging performance coaches within England therefore if you have long term aspirations to coach internationally the England Talent Programme will be the main route to GB Boxing. Coaches from Wales or Scotland

If you are a coach from Wales or Scotland and you wish to be considered for GB Boxing you must seek the support and backing from their performance programme leads and supporting references. GB Boxing will not accept any coach unless they have full support from their Home Nation. Any nomination received will be shared with their Home Nation.

  • Enthusiastic about learning opportunities and the potential to become a GB BoxingPerformance Coach.
  • A clear set of coaching values which forms and guides coaching practice which needs toinclude a fundamental understanding and respect of athlete welfare.
  • Support a performance culture which is underpinned by clear values and beliefs that supportand develop others.
  • Uphold a professional attitude and act as a role model for others to follow.
  • The ability to be respectfully curious and have an inner drive to seek progressive ways toevolve coaching and boxer development / performance.
